Many people find comfort in animals. At ECS Psychological, we recognize the positive effects that animals have on an individual’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. That is why, ECS psychological offers in-house therapy dogs and cats as an additional tool to help clients relax during therapy sessions.
Therapy Animal of the Month
Murphy is a happy-go-lucky Labradoodle who came to live in Saratoga at 8 weeks old on the coldest day of winter. January 5th of 2018. Immediately after his arrival, Murph started his job as a therapy dog at ECS’s Therapeutic Farm, alongside his “mom”, clinician Sarah Etkin, LCSW-R. Murph has met and worked with clients of all ages. He LOVES his work, pats on the head, treats, playing tug of war, and more treats!!! In his free time, Murph likes going to the dog park, hiking in the Adirondacks, and taking naps on the couch.
You’ll also find our Tabby cat, Addie, and a Tuxedo cat, Fluff, lounging at our Therapeutic Farm location. ECS also offers a unique partnership with Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga, which allows us to offer Equine Assisted Learning to our clients.
Equine-assisted learning uses diverse personalities and calming effects of a horse as a means of helping our clients work through their own emotional challenges. There is no riding involved in equine-assisted learning, and no prior horse knowledge is required. The equine team from Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga includes George and D.W.’s Regal, who are both retired racehorses.
